UWE Collaboration

 Westmark / UWE Collaboration

Westmark is currently collaborating with Professor Colin Fudge, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of the West of England to develop a sustainability appraisal “toolkit”

The project, which is part of Westmark’s commitment to improve sustainability on future projects, will increase understanding of the issues involved and help Westmark to identify the most effective ways to deliver more sustainable homes. Westmark is already working towards achieving an “Excellent” rating under the widely-recognised BRE EcoHomes scheme on a number of future developments, including Bath Western Riverside, but EcoHomes and similar schemes have been designed to cover a wide range of mainstream sites and cannot fully address all of the site specific opportunities that arise. By developing a bespoke appraisal “toolkit”, specifically designed for urban brown-field locations, Westmark will be able to evaluate more innovative approaches to sustainable construction.

Professor Fudge has had an illustrious career in architecture, planning and academia, and is a regular speaker at conferences on urban sustainability. In addition to his roles at UWE he is currently Chair of the European Union Expert Group on the Urban Environment, Chair of the European Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaign, Visiting Professor at the European University Institute, Fiesole, Italy and Royal Professor at the Swedish Academy of Sciences.
